Paver Sealing: Natural Look vs Wet Look

This is mostly an aesthetic decision, but it has practical consequences too. It is worth understanding both before you commit, because reversing an enhanced finish is not straightforward.
Natural finish
A natural-look result aims to leave the appearance of the paver essentially as it is. Colour and texture stay close to the dry, untreated look while the material gains protection.
This is what most people choose when the pavers already look the way they want, or when the installation is large and a uniform matte appearance suits the architecture.
Enhanced or wet look
An enhanced finish deepens the colour, similar to how pavers look right after rain. It can make a faded installation look richer and bring out the variation in the stone.
It is a more noticeable, more decorative result — and a more committed one, because going back to a natural appearance later is difficult.
Practical considerations
Beyond looks, a few points come up regularly:
- Enhanced finishes can show wear paths more visibly on high-traffic routes
- Surface texture and slip characteristics differ between finishes
- Joint sand condition affects the outcome of any paver work
- Existing efflorescence should be dealt with before, not sealed in
How to decide
Look at your installation when it is wet — that is roughly the enhanced result. If you like how it looks in the rain, an enhanced finish is likely the direction you want. If you prefer it dry, go natural.
